I am honored and excited to invite you to the Berkeley Model United Nations Delegate Workshop, which will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2017. Delegate Workshop is an exciting opportunity for delegates to learn directly from our Secretariat the essential skills to excel in Model UN conferences. It is an excellent opportunity to both enter the MUN world, or dive deeper into it.
This year we will be offering three different courses based on skill level divided by levels of experience! Novice, Advanced (Crisis), and now Chairing!
In Novice committees, delegates will spend the morning learning Model UN fundamentals like Research, Rules of Procedure, Flow of Debate, Caucusing, and Public Speaking. The afternoon will be reserved for a simulation to apply these skills.
Our Advanced classes will be placed into smaller groups, and will consist of a more open format, allowing for questions of greater detail and teaching in-depth Model UN procedures, with a focus on crisis committees. Only students who have attended two or more conferences may enroll in this committee.
Our Chairing course will consist of teaching and activities in the morning and simulation in the afternoon. Students will have the opportunity to serve as chairs either to BMUN secretariat or to novice delegates during their simulations with the opportunity to receive immediate feedback from BMUN chairs. Only students who have attended three or more conferences may enroll in this committee.
All three courses will be followed by a brief break for lunch , and then a committee simulation once delegates return to their classrooms. This short mock-conference will enable the delegates to put the skills they learned into practice, as well as to raise any additional inquiries they might have about procedure. During the Delegate Workshop, we will also hold an advisor meeting during which the advisors of participating schools will have the opportunity to meet one another, as well as the BMUN Secretariat. As with the BMUN Conference in March, the Delegate Workshop will be hosted on the campus of UC Berkeley. Further information regarding topics and committees will be made available to you in the coming weeks.
This year there will be no fee for attending Delegate Workshop! However, this means that this year we will not be providing lunch. Please have your delegates bring a sack lunch or money for lunch in the local area.
Berkeley Model United Nations will also continue its tradition to reward the most active, engaged, and enthusiastic schools attending Delegate Workshop; we will be offering scholarships towards registration fees for our BMUN conference on March 2rd to 4th, 2018 as an incentive for delegates to work diligently throughout the Workshop.
You may register for the by filling out our registration form here.
In the coming weeks, more information will be made available on this site regarding the schedule of the day's events, as well as logistical issues surrounding parking and transportation. Please do not hesitate to send questions or concerns in the meantime to firstname.lastname@example.org.
I look forward to seeing you all in October!
