Dear Advisors and Head Delegates,
I am honored to formally invite you to Berkeley Model United Nations' inaugural Southern California Delegate Workshop, which will be held on Saturday, January 14th, 2017 at Los Alamitos High School, from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Delegate Workshop is an exciting opportunity for delegates of all levels to develop essential skills to excel in Model UN conferences while working directly with BMUN chairs.
At Delegate Workshop, students will spend the morning learning and honing their MUN skills as taught by BMUN’s secretariat, through a combination of lecture and activities. Delegates will practice and receive feedback on speeches, research skills, caucusing, and resolutions, while working closely with chairs from BMUN's March conference in a small classroom setting. We will also offer Advanced classes for more experienced delegates, who will be placed into smaller groups with opportunities for open-ended questions, developing more advanced committee skills, and preparing for crisis formats. During the morning, we will also hold a meeting for advisors of participating schools, so that they may meet one another as well as representatives of BMUN’s leadership in order to discuss club and conference building.
Our morning course will be followed by a brief break for lunch (provided by BMUN), then a full committee simulation. This short mock-conference will enable the delegates to put the skills they learned into practice, as well as to raise any additional inquiries they might have about procedure. Further information regarding topics and committees will be made available to you in the coming weeks; however, prior topic prep is not needed for the workshop. On the day of, short briefs of topics and country positions will be handed out.
Berkeley Model United Nations will also reward the most active and enthusiastic delegates attending Delegate Workshop by offering a scholarship towards school registration fees for our BMUN conference on March 3rd to 5th, 2017 as an incentive for delegates to work diligently throughout the Workshop.
There will be a $10 fee per delegate. Fees will be accepted by mail until December 23rd. Fees may be paid on January 14th onsite during check-in at an increased rate of $15 per delegate.
You may register for the workshop here and, if you are paying in advance, sending a check to:
P.O. Box 4306 Berkeley, CA 94704
Please make all checks available to Berkeley Model United Nations. If you’d like to pay online, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with your finalized delegate counts by December 23rd.
More information will be released to registered schools in the following weeks, as well as to our website. Please do not hesitate to forward any questions to email@example.com in the meantime.
