About Alumni Scholarship

Dear Prospective Applicant,

As a non-profit organization on the UC Berkeley campus, Berkeley Model United Nations (BMUN) remains committed to continuing its seven decades of excellence as the world’s premier — and very first — Model UN conference. Over 2,000 students attend the conference every year to improve their public speaking and policy debate skills.

The BMUN Secretariat and Alumni are dedicated to providing financial aid to students who cannot, or struggle to afford to attend the conference. Individual delegates can apply for this assistance to help with the costs of attending BMUN.

Since BMUN 71, the Alumni Scholarship has taken a different form. Instead of having students submit receipts and have their costs reimbursed at conference, we will be distributing financial aid in the form of a fixed amount that is dependent on the distance that the student has to travel to attend BMUN. 

In the event that a student is awarded a scholarship but does not attend BMUN 75, they must contact treasurer@bmun.org to arrange a return of disbursed funds. Failure to reach out by February 12, 2026, will result in students from that school becoming ineligible for the Alumni Scholarship for the next 3 years.

Important Deadlines

  • September TBD, 2026, 6:00 AM PST - Alumni Scholarship Application is released and ready for submission.

  • December 19th, 2026, 11:59 PM PST – Application deadline. Both the student application and School Advisor Recommendation form must be submitted.

  • January 4th, 2027 – All scholarship application decisions will be released by this date.

  • January 29th, 2027  – Scholarship acceptance deadline. If the student does not accept the scholarship by this date, it will be forfeited and not disbursed.

  • February 12th, 2027 — Deadline to contact Treasurer about attendance at BMUN 75 Conference to allow for the redistribution of scholarship funds. 

  • March 5th - March 7th, 2027 — BMUN 75 Conference. Scholarships will ONLY be awarded in the form of a check and given to advisors at conference check-in.

In order for your scholarship application to be considered complete and for you to be considered for financial aid, both the student application and the School Advisor Recommendation form must be submitted by December 19th, 2026.
