Why BMUN?

A Teaching conference

With over 2,000 delegates, it is easy for each delegate to get lost in a sea of motions. By extending the BMUN experience beyond the three-day conference through the use of position paper feedback, blogs, and other interactive media, we ensure that each delegate receives a unique experience that they can learn from. Through repeated interactions, not only can our chairs get to know each delegate, but they can also help delegates develop their ideas to make sure they make the most of their time at Berkeley. As subject matter experts, our chairs seek to cultivate a holistic perspective on the topic by sharing their academic research in the form of micro-lectures, inviting professor speakers, and encouraging Socratic dialogue among the delegates that attend our events.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

BMUN's Outreach and Education mission is to actively make Model UN more accessible to local high schools. We plan sessions with high schools across the Bay Area and Southern California to build and support their Model UN programs through in-class visits to clubs and classrooms. Our sessions consist of a wide range of activities, but our focus lies in offering our experience to helping them increase their knowledge of MUN. In addition to Outreach sessions, BMUN hosts an annual Delegate Workshop in the Fall, during which delegates participate in a day-long lecture and simulation experience. BMUN also provides additional services in conference consulting and remote educational opportunities.

ON the Berkeley CAMPUS

UC Berkeley is a university open to all fields of research and thinking. It is an open forum for all walks of life, all schools of thought, and all opinions. It is this mindset that has led UC Berkeley to have 104 Nobel Laureates, discover 16 elements, win 20 Academy Awards, 14 Pulitzer Prizes, and 207 Olympic medals! We are proud to be a part of this rich tradition and are honored to be able to host our conference on our campus every year for the past seventy years. All our committees and events during conference weekend take place within campus classrooms and venues, allowing delegates to experience the vibrant campus atmosphere while debating pressing topics in halls filled with such rich history and inspiration.

International outreach

BMUN brings our unique brand of Model UN across the globe to countries like China, Japan, and Brazil. We focus on providing our chairing and debate expertise to conferences around the world, such as at a BMUN China conference every August and at the Pacific Rim International Model United Nations conference in Tokyo, Japan every March. Our annual BMUN conference is attended by schools from countries all over the globe like Canada, Japan, Korea, Mexico, China, and Italy. Additionally, our conference always includes special committees featuring international debating procedures, such as the THIMUN procedure.
